Christmas Crafting

Making stuff in general is good. I do not really like making things that are other people's ideas. My mom had this idea for making a punk kind of nutcracker for my uncle Josh last year.

I started with a white nutcracker from Target. We painted pants and a hat and stuff on it. I used sharpies to draw tattoo sleeves on him. (The other side says "Nice.")

The finished project wasn't up to my usual standards but it was nice. My uncle Josh is a pretty amazing artist, so I kinda had high standards for how I wanted it to look.

This is me working on a little family of people for my cousin.

Also, not my best work. But she is a little kid and most likely will not notice. These are my grandparents with all their grand-kids.

In the end, it I was really resistant to making these things. I thought it would take too much time. But they turned out nice.  My uncle Josh ended up liking the nutcracker. And my cousin liked the people.

Too Many Ideas

I have too many ideas.

It's hard to focus on just 1 idea some times.

I try to plan out an idea in my head, but before I can think it all the way through, a new idea appears and obliterates my thoughts.

This is one of my ideas: well drawn stick figures vs. poorly drawn stick figures.

I'm sick today so here's a lame comic I made a while ago. It's sort of poking fun at those shows on the Science or Discovery channel where they show a cheap CGI Earth covered in lava and the deep-voiced narrator guy is all:

Post It Note a Day

So, I am home-schooled. And that is a whole other blog post. But my mom makes me draw a post it note a day as kinda a brain warm up activity. It is kinda easy and fun. I have a gallery of them over there on the right. This is one of my family's favorite post it notes. They are kinda easy to entertain so you can't really go by them.

This is my mom's favorite one I have drawn so far.  But she thinks everything I draw is great.

I spend about 30 seconds thinking about each post it note and then draw whatever pops into my mind.

And then I just draw it. I crumple up and throw away some of them. But mostly, I kinda just draw them to entertain myself.

I have a whole series of "Stupid Ideas." They are kinds things I think would be stupid to do but funny to watch in comic form. Yea. So, that is one of the things I have to do for home-school that isn't too terrible.

Dungeon and Dragons & Lego Mini Figure Mash Up

I wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends and brothers. I had a lot of fantasy / medieval Lego people that I thought I could use for something. (As opposed to just playing with the Lego mini figures for a just a few minutes and then putting them back away.)  And it was cheaper to use something I would already owned instead of buying the D&D figurines.

My brothers and Christie's brother and sister played my version of D&D the other night. I thought it was great. They thought it was good.

I created the map. It wasn't very hard. You really just have to draw out dungeons and castles and stuff like that. It took like 5 minutes at the most. It is basically just a big shape with squares and circles on super old computer paper my parents still had sitting around. I have no idea what the holes on the side are for.

This is what two of my friends made as an inventory for their quest.

This is my youngest brother's stats page. I printed these out for our group.  Everyone had a stats page and rolled to see what their levels would be.

I thought the game went pretty well. I hope we can play it at least once a week.

So it was like 10 o'clock at night and mom says I haven't blogged yet and it is my turn.

This happened.

Trends & Fads

I (Christie) have a tendency to hate popular things. 

Webkins. Back in third grade, every single kid had at least 10 of these grossly overpriced stuffed animals. They just looked so cheaply made, and lame. Apparently, the gimmick behind these wretched things was they came with a code that could be used on the Webkinz website. One of my friends who had one showed me the website and it looked like it was made to entertain 5 years olds.

Crocs. Rubber in the shape of a foot. Full of holes. These shoes were the most hideous things my eyes have had the misfortune to behold. Near the end of this fad, I got a pair and I must admit they were pretty comfortable. But they were still hideous.

Teenage bands/singers. Some examples: Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana. Everyone in my class loved these people and worshipped them like they were some sort of pagan gods. I never liked any of these people's music. And I thought the Jonas Brothers were seriously unattractive.

The reasons these things bothered me so much is because it was disheartening to see this crap being loved by my peers. Nobody was interested in the things I liked. I actually like quality things.

I didn't start reading Harry Potter until long after the last book came out. I assumed that because it was so popular, it was going to be horrible. I ended up enjoying it immensely and finished the series in a week. 

I have learned that just because something is popular doesn't mean it terrible.
